1793. Just after the signing of the partition treaty, the Prussian army ravages the premises of a monastery in Greater Poland. Jakub, a young nobleman, survives the slaughter thanks to the intervention of a Stranger. The protagonist sets off to reach his hometown, but the mysterious savior has no intention to leave him alone whatsoever. "The Devil" by Andrzej Żuławski brilliantly combines the tradition of Polish Romanticism with the ambience of horror. A particular credit goes to the truly awe-inspiring creation of the Devil himself impersonated by Wojciech Pszoniak.
